Demand-Side Platform (DSP)

Definition

Demand-side platform (DSP), also called buy-side optimizer and buy-side platform, has been simply defined in this manner: “a piece of software used to purchase advertising in an automated fashion. DSPs are most often used by advertisers and advertising agencies to help them buy display, video, mobile and search ads.” [1]

These complex technology platforms provide centralized and aggregated advertising media buying from multiple sources including ad exchanges, ad networks, and sell-side platforms, often leveraging real time bidding capabilities of these sources. [2]
