Internet

Definition

Internet is a general term used to describe a global network of computers used to transmit information. The Internet was originally developed by the U.S. military as a backup communications system in case of nuclear war. In the early 1990s, the Internet was made publicly available and its usage has since grown exponentially.

The most familiar aspect of the internet is the World Wide Web (www in webpage addresses), which consists of various interlinked webpages.

HTTP stands for hypertext transfer protocol, the format of the Internet.

Internet television (or online television) is the digital distribution of television content via the Internet rather than by other television systems (e.g., broadcast, cable, and satellite).

Bot is an abbreviation for robot (also called a spider). It refers to software programs that scan the web. Bots vary in purpose from indexing web pages for search engines to harvesting email addresses for spammers.
