Website

Definition

A website is a collection of interconnected HTML (hypertext markup language) documents called web pages. Available on the Internet, they can be used to provide information about a company, product line, organization, cause or individual. [1]

page view is a request to a web browser to load a single HTML page. The number of page views in a given time period is used as a measure of website traffic. [1]

contextual or content network is a network of websites that displays advertising on web pages adjacent to content containing the keywords being bid upon. [1][2]  Example of contextual networks are Google AdSense and the Google Display Network.

Website Elements

blog is a hybrid form of Internet communication that combines a column, diary, and directory. The term, short for web-blog, refers to a website containing a frequently updated collection of short articles on various subjects with links to further resources.[1]

The default page is the index page in your site‘s directories (e.g., ‘index.html’). This information allows the browser to reconcile entries such as “http://www.example.com/” and “http://www.example.com/index.html,” which are in fact the same page. Only a single default page should be specified.

Digital display advertising is visually-based advertising or other marketing communications placed on websites. It includes a variety of different formats that contain text, images, movement, video, and, less frequently, audio. Its main purpose is to deliver brand messages to those who visit the website and, in the case of retail websites, influence the customer at the shopping stage. [3]

deep linking

A deep link takes users to a subpage of a website.

homepage is the main, introductory page of a website. It can also be referred to as the front pageindex page, or main page. The term can also refer to the webpage a user sets up as the start-up page for their Internet browser.

hyperlink refers to clickable text or graphics on a web page that takes you to another place on the same page, another page, or a whole other site. It is the single most powerful and important function of online communications. Deep linking refers to the act of creating hyperlinks to a web page other than a website’s homepage.

naked link is a posted and visible link in the text of a webpage for which the anchor text is the URL itself and that directs to a website. [1][2]

Navigation refers to elements of a website (e.g., menus and hyperlinks) that facilitate movement from one page to another.

Uniform resource locator (URL) refers to the location of a resource on the Internet. This term is often used interchangeably with domain and Internet address or website address. The URL of the Universal Marketing Dictionary is https://marketing-dictionary.org.

vlog is a video blog.
